What are your thoughts on these children being abandoned via the new Safe Haven law in Nebraska?

I think it's sad and tragic that this is the 'solution' that we have come up with. Those children have one father and he obviously doesn't have the capacity to care for them. It's too bad that we don't offer parenting cles, respite care, services to the family and parent so that the children may continue to live with their father. Clearly, if you are abandoning six kids, you have some issues and it's tragic that we don't have services in place to support this father. Abandoning children should be a last resort and there indeed should be a way for parents to do this safely and without retribution, but it should only come after interventions have been tried with the family...interventions that offer support. I feel for those children. How would it feel to KNOW that your parent didn't want you any more.
