Why was the anna nicole judge so reviled in the media? Is it just fun to complain about people in public?

I didn't see what all the fuss was about either. Those that know him say that's just the way he is, not "show-boating" as the media mostly claimed. I thought of him as very thorough (too thorough?) and compionate for both sides. I would want him for a judge if I was to go through the same thing.
