From what you have described it sounds like you need something called a hose clamp.It is a metal band that forms a circle with a screw for tightening. You will need to measure the distance around the rubber attachment when it is on the faucet and add a little. That will be the size you need. Put the clamp on the faucet, then the rubber connector then tighten the clamp.
